Gloranthan songs: Over the plains and far away

Better known in the RW as "over the hills and far away". Those of you who've been watching the Sharpe series will recognise the signature tune.

The song is traditional, and words have changed over the centuries for each war and ruler. This version of the words started with that from "The Yetties Songbook", and was changed to fit the Sun Dome in Prax.
Hark now the drums beat up again,
For all good soldiers, gentlemen,
Then let us list and march I say,
Over the plains and far away.

(chorus)
Over the hills and o'er the plain,
While nests of Chaos still remain.
The Count commands and we'll obey
Over the plains and far away.

All gentlemen that have a mind,
To serve a Count that's good and kind,
Come list and enter into pay,
Then over the plains and far away.

Here's forty guilders on the drum,
To them that volunteers do come
With shirts and coats and present pay,
When over the plains and far away.

No more from sound of drum retreat,
While Solanthos and Invictus beat,
The Dark and Chaos every day,
When over the plains and far away.

What though friends our absence mourn,
We with honour shall return,
Then we'll sing both night and day
Over the plains and far away.
Note: the names of the generals in the penultimate verse vary from time to time, and often scan badly (like this). This is the version from circa 1620.
